Common problems and what usually causes them

Breaker keeps tripping

Usually too much on one circuit (an AC plus a kettle, say) or a short circuit. Never force a breaker to stay on.

Socket not working

Its breaker may have tripped, the socket may be faulty, or a wire may be loose. Check the breaker first.

Hot socket or burning smell

Dangerous. Switch off its breaker straight away and don't use it until an electrician has checked it.

Lights flickering or dimming

Could be the bulb, the driver or a loose connection. If the whole house flickers, it's a bigger problem.

Power cuts out when it rains

Usually water getting into an outdoor socket or roof light. It needs sealing or a weatherproof fitting.

A tingle from an appliance

A sign of current leakage or missing earthing. Don't touch it; call an electrician.

Before you agree with any electrician

  1. Get the price first

Ask: is it labour only or with parts? Does the inspection fee come off the repair?

  2. Proper parts matter

Cheap breakers and cables are a fire risk. Ask which brand, and check the part meets Saudi standards.

  3. Ask about experience

Fuse board work and full rewiring need a qualified electrician, not a general handyman.

  4. Ask about the warranty

How long is the guarantee on the work? Get it in writing, even just on WhatsApp.

  5. Test before you pay

Run the appliances on that circuit and make sure the breaker holds.

  6. Photos and reviews

Look at photos of past work and genuine reviews from earlier customers.

Safety tips at home

Don't overload sockets

Extension leads plugged into extension leads, with heavy appliances (AC, oven, heater), are a common cause of fires.

Label your fuse board

Write which room each breaker covers, so you can switch off quickly in an emergency.

Children at home?

Fit covers on unused sockets, especially low ones.

Burning smell = switch off

Any burning smell or crackling from a socket or the board: switch off the breaker and call an electrician.

Common questions

Why does the breaker trip when I turn on the AC?

Usually the circuit has too much on it, or the breaker is too small for the AC. An electrician can measure the load and say if it needs its own circuit.

Can I change a socket myself?

If you have no experience, it's better not to. If you do, switch off the breaker first and check there's no power.

Does Laqeeni take commission?

No. Laqeeni is a directory that connects you with the electrician directly. You agree and pay between you.
